RAZR 2 COMING TO THE US

Motorola is doing a test release in the Asian markets of the anticipated update for the razr, the Razr 2 also know the the v9.

This major update to the V3 is thinner and sports a massive external display with virtual touch keys. Other upgrades include a QVGA main display, 2 megapixel camera, and stereo Bluetooth. Carryover features include music player, memory card slot, EVDO data, and speaker-independent voice dialing.

IMO.... great phone, but Moto seems to have quality and reliability issues in past razrs. Will they fix it w/ this phone? I doubt it, but im sure that wont stop people from buying millions of these.

AT&T Unity Plan

sprint creates walkie talkie for iDEN & CDMA

Source: Sprint
Sprint last week completed its first successful walkie talkie call between an iDEN and a CDMA phone. A spokeswoman has confirmed that test was an important advancement in Sprint's efforts to launch walkie talkie service using its Revision A CDMA network. The carrier intends to launch a service that both works like and is compatible with iDEN walkie talkie servies over its mobile broadband network in 2008.

IMO... DONT waste $$$ on buying the Nextel Hybrid phones as they will be outdated by end of 08'

Good news for sprint customers

Trying to find what party your friend is at or want to see if you girl is lying?

Sprint will launch Loopt location sharing service on its CDMA network in the next few weeks. Loopt allows users to share their GPS location with a pre-approved list of friends. The application also includes mapping of status messages and photos, which can be used to create a quick location based blog for friends. The carrier already offers Loopt on Boost iDEN handsets, however with the shift to fixed-price CDMA calling, Boost is no longer Sprint's youth-focused network. The service will cost $3 per month and will be available on about 20 handsets. Helio, an MVNO that also operates on Sprint's network offers a similar Buddy Beacon for free.

NEW THINNER LCD???

NewScientistTech

Researchers at the University of California, Riverside, have created new display technology using a liquid filled with plastic-coated iron oxide particles. The highly charged particles repel one another and arrange themselves in an ordered structure called colloidal photonic crystal. Each of the particles would become a pixel that represents a unique color. The particles in the liquid can then be controlled with a magnet that is placed behind it. Because the microscopic spacing between the particles is equal to the wavelength of light, the surface reflects light. The researchers were able to create a range of colors, and believe this new technology could be used to make large displays much cheaper than current LCDs. It is highly visible outdoors, and could also be used for flexible, rewritable electronic paper.

Google to by 700mhz auction?

Source: Google

Today, Google said that if the FCC allows the 700 MHz auction to proceed with open access requirements, it will join in the bidding. Google submitted a formal letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and implored that rules be put in place to ensure the auction benefits the general public. The four specific requests made by Google ask for open applications, open devices, open networks, and open services. AT&T voiced support for Martin's proposal yesterday. Google is prepared to spend at least $4.6 billion bidding in the auction.

AMP'd officially out of business

After trying to secure funding from outside sources, AMP'd Mobile was unable to do so and in return was unable to pay back the 51$ million they owe to Verizon.

Verizon has terminated their service and anybody who uses ampd mobile can no longer make phone calls as of July 24th.

mp'd had been racking up $370,000 in charges a day with carrier partner Verizon Wireles.

They could not even pay the 2.5$ million the court ordered them to pay.

They will be closing their doors after 4 years of operations.

IMO, they got too big too fast and could not handle the growth.

Goodbye Nextel

Rumors are circulating that Sprint is redesigning what they called ready link and will take over nextel's push to talk so they can eliminate the old iDEN technology.

GOOD news for quality and reliability.
BAD new for people who use their old cheap phones that are very rugged and ONLY need it for a walkie talkie.
