Today, Google said that if the FCC allows the 700 MHz auction to proceed with open access requirements, it will join in the bidding. Google submitted a formal letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and implored that rules be put in place to ensure the auction benefits the general public. The four specific requests made by Google ask for open applications, open devices, open networks, and open services. AT&T voiced support for Martin's proposal yesterday. Google is prepared to spend at least $4.6 billion bidding in the auction.
